AI has been the buzz-term in tech for the last few years, but is it just ‘noise’ or are there real benefits for the HR profession?
In this article we explore practical examples of how AI is helping HR consultants to build more efficient processes and reduce administration. We'll also talk about how we're using AI in Ten Space to remove bias from your analysis to present better data for your clients.

What is AI?

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a branch of computer science focused on creating machines that can simulate human intelligence. AI systems process vast amounts of data, recognise patterns, and make decisions with minimal human intervention. These technologies are widely used in industries such as healthcare, finance, retail, and human resources to enhance efficiency and innovation.

AI can be broadly classified under functionality as follows -

  • Machine Learning (ML) – AI that learns from data to improve performance without explicit programming
  • Deep Learning – A subset of ML using neural networks to analyse complex data patterns, powering technologies like facial recognition and autonomous vehicles
  • Natural Language Processing (NLP) – AI that understands and processes human language, used in chatbots, translation tools, and virtual assistant
  • Computer Vision – AI that interprets visual data from images and videos, used in facial recognition and medical diagnostics

How has AI impacted businesses so far?

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as one of the most transformative technological advancements in modern business operations. Organisations across industries are leveraging AI to automate tasks, optimise workflows, and enhance decision-making. By analysing vast amounts of data, AI enables businesses to gain valuable insights, improve efficiency, and drive innovation. From customer service chatbots to predictive analytics in finance, AI is reshaping traditional business models, reducing costs, and increasing productivity. In HR departments and people teams, AI is starting to provide itself as a useful tool. It is helping to transform Human Resources (HR) by streamlining processes, reducing administrative burdens, and improving decision-making.

How can HR teams benefit from AI?

HR teams are already positively benefitting from the use of AI in their day-to-day operations. Below are some practical examples of how you and your team can use AI to automate processes and reduce workload -

  • Automating Administrative Tasks - AI-powered chatbots handle employee queries about policies, benefits, and leave requests, reducing the workload on HR teams. Automated document processing and digital onboarding tools speed up paperwork and compliance tasks.
  • Enhancing Recruitment and Talent Acquisition - AI-driven applicant tracking systems (ATS) filter resumes based on job descriptions, saving time and improving hiring accuracy. Also, AI-powered video interview tools assess candidates’ speech patterns and facial expressions to gauge soft skills and cultural fit.
  • Improving Employee Experience and Engagement - AI-driven sentiment analysis tools analyze employee feedback and engagement surveys to detect workplace issues early. Also, personalised learning and development platforms recommend training based on employees’ career goals and skills gaps.
  • Optimising Workforce Planning and Performance Management - AI analyses workforce trends to predict attrition and suggest retention strategies.
Smart performance management tools provide real-time feedback and data-driven appraisals.
  • Reducing Bias and Improving Diversity & Inclusion - AI eliminates human biases in hiring by evaluating candidates based on skills and experience rather than demographic factors. Also, AI-powered diversity analytics help track and improve DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) initiatives.
  • Enhancing Compliance and Risk Management- AI monitors workplace policies and flags potential compliance risks. Also automated payroll and benefits management reduce errors and ensure adherence to labor laws.
  • By integrating AI into HR processes, organisations can focus on strategic decision-making, employee well-being, and fostering a more inclusive and productive work environment.

AI and Ten Space

Ten Space is an employee engagement platform. The feedback we gather helps HR teams make data-driven decisions about HR strategy. Improving Employee Experience to retain top talent, increase performance and detect workplace issues early is at the forefront of what we do.

We built AI tools into our platform early and our customers have been delighted with results. It's 'revolutionised' our product in a few key ways -

  • AI results summaries - Data collection and analysis used to involve a huge amount of manual effort and data processing. Analysing data from open-ended questions has always been incredibly time consuming, particuarly when you're looking at responses from thousands of employees. Our AI-powered survey and response summaries save you time - and lots of it. As a busy HR professional, we know that you have better things to do than spend lots of time reading, understanding, interpreting and summarising responses. Our AI tools quickly build summaries of your results, including looking between your key segments, to help spot trend areas and highlights that you’ll want to dig in to without you having to spend hours staring at data. Our clients tell us that these tools typically help them to save days and can often spot areas of interest that they didn’t even suspect. You can even apply segmentation filters to your data to analyse by team, location or any other segmentation filter you have applied (assuming that your response rates are above our minmum 'ethics filter' thresholds).
  • Analyse your data without bias - Our platform’s built-in tools, like our ethics filter and pseudonymisation by default make sure that wherever you see results you can’t tie that back to any individual, avoiding any human bias creeping in. Our smart AI tooling helps even further by  doing lot of the analysis for you. The AI tools never find out information that a human may make a biased decision on, such as a respondent’s name or gender to help make sure that every voice is heard equally.
